When I was in my final year of training at the top school for eye doctors in the States, I was serving as international president of the American Optometric Student Association representing the thousands of student doctors in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
I spent every weekend traveling from Manhattan to meet with all of the post-graduate organizations focused on prevention, rehabilitation and enhancement of vision and eye health.
I instituted the first publication of all the available optometric residency programs that train young eye doctors in advanced healing methods.
My father was president of the largest post-doctoral education organization: the Optometric Extension Program Foundation.
For decades before my father was asked to run the organization, the founder and visionary A.M. Skeffington was the progenitor of the field of functional optometry, long before the term "functional medicine" came into use.
"Skeff" as he was fondly known was a remarkable intellect, drawing in scientists from a wide range of fields.
Like me, Skeff's background also included training in divinity...
And his wife was a practicing ophthalmologist.
Because the therapeutic methods were largely framed as behavioral, the terminology eventually shifted to "behavioral optometry" in the 1960's when I was experiencing visual training, which later came to be called "vision therapy."
I developed new techniques for VT that my father put in his manual used by thousands of eye doctors, and my academic performance soared from C's to straight A's.
In the early 1970's, I worked as a vision therapist in his multidisciplinary office where we were not only healing learning disabilities, but also stroke and head trauma.
By the early 1980's I was introducing my father's system of office and home based vision therapy, but also two other innovative systems to Asia.
A foundational conceptual framework organized around restoration of physiological balance in the autonomic nervous system by way of photobiomodulation was known in the 1930's as syntony.
The College of Syntonic Optometry was founded by a doctor, who like me, was both a naturopath and an optometrist: Dr. Harry Riley Spitler.
His book The Syntonic Principle is still used as the foundational textbook in syntonic optometry, just as his book Basic Naturopathy was the first required reading when I went to naturopathy school.
Syntonics was suppressed by the new regulatory agency, the FDA, when the patent medicine industry came to power as a controlling monopoly instituted by Rockefeller and Carnegie, based on their Flexner Report.
Healing instruments using selected frequencies of light were destroyed.
The books were burned.
The new regulations made it illegal for instruments to cross state lines.
The College of Syntonic Optometry, with its research center in Ohio, ceased to function.
The thousands of eye doctors who once practiced Syntonic Optometry became a well-redacted footnote in the history of modern medicine.
The government instituted power of monopoly via patents on new synthetic chemicals licensed as drugs, together with state licensing of medical professionals trained to push the drugs created the most lucrative combine in modern culture.
With the ability to control monopoly pricing, and profit margins double those in natural medicine, there was plenty of money to buy state and federal legislation and capture the new regulatory agencies.
Hence, I like to note that "we have the best government money can buy."
And as a consequence, we take more drugs than any other culture.
The clinical outcome is that we are less healthy than any other population...
But the light of truth refuses to stay hidden forever.
The edict that light frequencies can't do anything for health and function never reached the eye docs in a couple of small towns in fly-over country, so the folks there just kept ignorantly referring neighbors for the light therapy that had helped them so much - with no side effects...
And a few documents survived the burning in a university library, where a Ph.D. candidate discovered them.
Then he discovered the doctors who were still practicing syntonics.
The College of Syntonic Optometry was reborn with that OD PhD as its Dean: Ray Gottlieb!
A new conceptual framework organized around child development emerged, and a new organization was formed: the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.
My father became a Fellow designated by the post-nominal letters FCOVD.
After COVID, the organization changed their name to the Optometric Vision Development & Rehabilitation Association so they could avoid potential visual confusion and change the letters to FOVDR.
The new name also acknowledged the growing framework of rehabilitation.
When I was growing up in the 1960's and 1970's as a vision therapy patient and vision therapist, we were rehabilitating vision affected by traumatic brain injury and stroke.
As this became more widely recognized and practiced, the Neuro-Optometric Rehabiltation Association came to be formed.
My middle name came from our family doctor, Schuyler Martin, MD.
My father referred patients who wanted to heal their eye disease to him for nutritional and energy medicine.
Before he 'retired' to general practice, he had spent 30 years in hospital-based research on vitamin metabolism...
As well as energy medicine research with the 'Wizard of Schenectady', Steinmetz.
If integrative medicine had been a specialty in the 1970's, it would have been my choice to follow in Dr. Martin's footsteps...
When I returned from my research clinic in Tokyo to serve as medical director in my father's multidisciplinary Learning Disabilities Associates, my research publications on topics from cataract reversal to photobiomodulation for glucose regulation quickly earned me the award of Holistic Optometrist of the Year from ISHO, the International Society for Holistic Optometry founded by visionary optometrist Conrad Mazeski, OD.
Today, there is a professional association focused on wellness and nutrition for restoring eye health and function: the Ocular Wellness & Nutrition Society.
Because there is no single organization to represent the spectrum of integrative optometry, I have given you the links above to search out practitioners in your area who have demonstrated a level interest as a member or dedication as a fellow of the relevant organizations.
If you are in the States, I have put together my top practitioner selections near the top 100 metropolitan areas for you:
My focus now is to transform global healing practices by sharing how creation, life, consciousness, and spirit truly work according to my studies, experience, and research.
I call my model the Clinical Theory of Everything.
If you want to help people heal even degenerative conditions that are otherwise considered irreversible or incurable...
Including blinding eye diseases...
I am available to mentor you, and you can even qualify for certification as an Accelerated Self Healing practitioner or coach.

Joy is a Life Coach who learned she has elevated risk of vision loss due to Glaucoma, Pigment Dispersion Syndrome and Chorioretinopathy. Comparison of her clinical charts shows her dramatic healing of macular edema in just 3 months with the Accelerated Self Healing system.

"It's approximately 6 months that I've been on the treatment, and it's just unbelievable... unbelievable, remarkable, accelerated healing. And it's an amazing feeling experiencing your own body doing its own healing. And to experience like a level of life energy in your body... It's very, very powerful. I feel very blessed and grateful to have stumbled onto this..."

After hearing several of Dr. Glen’s presentations on healing Glaucoma with natural medicine at the International Conference on Light and Vision, he completed an intensive training on Dr. Glen’s Clinical Theory of Everything… Implementing Accelerated Self Healing first for himself and his family, and then for patients in his practice.
